We are proud to welcome you to our Carlsbad Home Tour which we completed this week. Thanks to my “A-Team” of professionals, we completed this makeover in one day (minus the paint). This involved myself, my two assistants, my drapery installer, furniture delivery crew of three, our handyman, and two of my receivers. It really does take a village.
Designing this home, and becoming friends with these clients, was a true pleasure. There two young sons, ages 2 and 5 are the cutest little guys. It’s always bittersweet when a project comes to an end because you miss speaking with nice home owners like this family.
This couple had moved into this home just a couple of months before this picture was taken. They knew when they moved here from Northern California that they were going to be doing a lot redecorating, and were living with minimal furnishings.
Ta-Da! When working with this wife, she had several requests, but the biggest one of all was please use the colors gray and yellow, her favorite for home interiors. Mission accomplished!
Everything is new in this bright master bedroom, and with the request of the couple we kept all of the furnishings easy to clean because of their two lil’ people. All of the bedding is washable, the two nightstands have stone tops that can be wiped off, and the drapery (not shown) is ready made and can be thrown in the wash.
The furniture pieces were investment pieces which this family will enjoy for years to come. I regret that I didn’t capture a picture of the beautiful Armoire that we installed. It has an antique glass front and will not only accommodate their TV but also a coffee maker and small fridge. These items will allow these young parents to grab a bottle for the baby or make a cup of coffee, without having to go downstairs. Brilliant!
I’m loving the table lamps in this bedroom. I think we’ll be seeing a set in my own personal bedroom soon. Their neither too fancy or too boring, they satisfy my ever changing designs needs.
Now lets move onto the dining room and living room combo. These areas used to be dedicated to the kids play area, but has now become the adult “chilling” rooms where guests, family and frequent overnight guests can be entertained.
That little dining room table in this “before” shot looks so lonely. Again, we changed everything in this room(s), and divided the room into two different areas with simply using two area rugs and floating (furniture not against the walls) some of the furniture in the middle of the room.
There will be a lot of entertaining at the new dining room table. For every day we left it set up for six people but it extends to accommodate 12, yep it’s a big boy! We also used completely different chairs for the host chairs (at the heads of the table), they even came from a different manufacturer which helps to make everything not to look to matchy-matchy. We had custom plush lumbar yellow pillows made for the host chairs, which adds that pop of yellow the homeowner was craving.
We still have several additions to make to this living room which will include a table lamp, art and accessories. We installed the major pieces in the room and their ready for guests, or simply a place to hide away with a glass of wine and a good book.
We made one small change to the kitchen by changing out the pendant lighting. This simple change modernized this traditional area. Amazing what an impact a light fixture can make.
Then we have the family room, the heartbeat of the house for this family of four. Most of this “before” furniture was from the homeowners younger years when functionality wasn’t as important as it is today with demanding careers and two little people. We decided to make orange the impact color in this room so that it blended with the adjoining cherry cabinets in the kitchen.
See the legs on that beautiful swivel chair, they are a nod to the mid-century furnishings that these homeowners admire.
That small table to the right of the chair can be used for a drink, book or as an ottoman as it’s light weight and easily moved.
That area rug makes this room, the client was concerned when I first suggested using it and during our reveal this week it quickly became one of her favorite items.
The leather ottoman is going to be perfect for this family because it opens up to a LOT of hidden storage (for toys). Their sons will have fun finding their new hiding place.
Do you see that sweet little kitty on the couch? Wasn’t it nice of him to have fur the color of the room?
We found the perfect wall wood art, see it there in the hallway? Both of these clients are in the tech world so it seemed only appropriate when we noticed it on a recent shopping trip.
Every good home reveal should end with a glass of wine, lots of smiles, and just a few tears because it’s time to say goodbye . . . at least until the next project.
Thanks for joining me on this Carlsbad Home Tour, it’s been a lot of fun working on this project. Now onto our next fun project.
