Did you know?
This month is National Piano Month. Our family is huge on music and in fact my husband and I very thankful to music because that is what the brought the two of us together, along with the fact that our adult children introduced us to one another. Yep, it’s true.
As I design interiors for homes it’s so important to me that these homes reflect the values of my clients. I can honestly say about ninety percent of these homes have some type of music or art reflected in their surroundings that is carefully selected by the home owner, and I design around those precious items. These are the special touches that help make the house a home.
You walk through this front door and BOOM there is that beautiful baby grand piano. Look how that black plays together nicely with the ebony wood floor and stairs.
One of my all time favorite rooms. Look at those sexy piano bench legs and stylish grand piano. Who wouldn’t want to sit in this beach house, listen to the piano being played, while you watch the sun set?
Now lets not forget about our friend, the upright piano, a staple in many homes. Don’t you think this is an ideal location for this family heirloom. I’ve been working with some clients this year, Corbin and Lana, we’ve discussed having their upright piano painted a shiny mustard yellow or a very shiny black with a patterned yellow seat cushion. Can’t wait to see what happens. I’ll keep you posted.
Can I tell you how much I LOVE this entire room setting. From the black baby grand, to the gently sloping leg on the table, to the very unstructured floral arrangement, it all just makes me smile.
Together my husband and I have six children and each and everyone of them has played an instrument, and all of them have at least played all the way through high school. In fact, I have a very special step-daughter, Mrs. Katie Browne, who is the music instructor at Aviara Oaks Middle School in Carlsbad, CA. She has such a gift for music and has to be one of the best teachers I’ve ever met. God bless music teachers.
I’ll close on one more music mom ‘note’. Did you know that my two children were part of the Olympic Band that performed opening ceremonies (see pic above) of the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics? As a proud mom, I also traveled along as a chaperone and that has to be one of the the proudest moments of my life.
Music has taken me all over the world and even introduced me to my best friend, my husband. Is there music in your home?
