Vintage Lightbulbs

This past week as I walked around all of the Las Vegas trade shows it quickly became apparent that the industrial vintage lightbulbs trend was not going away any time soon.

There were the vintage Edison Lightbulbs every where, but what I started to notice in showroom after showroom was the heat these fixtures were emitting, along with the very yellowed tone of light.  The heat producing element would not be a favorite feature for me, and I wondered it there was a choice in this bulb design for color choices.  My research turned up some good news!

Are vintage lighbulbs dimmable and available in LED format?

To eliminate nearly all of the heat producing elements of lightbulbs I knew that these vintage lightbulbs would have to be available in a LED format, but were they available in that format.   Good news, they are! To make things easier for you,  here are a slew of options  which LED bulbs work best with dimmers. Bad news, in the past LED bulbs have not always been dimmable.

When ever speaking with new clients, I always recommend that nearly every lighting fixture be dimmable.   Now in some cases, the switch must be replaced. Other times, you’ll pay a little more for a compatible LED.  The great news, you can now get the vintage lightbulbs in a LED option, which is dimmable and does not emit much heat.

When shopping for Vintage Lightbulbs (LED), it helps to know what kind of dimming switch you have, but if you don’t know (or would rather not go through the trouble), simply search for LED bulbs compatible with standard incandescent dimmers.

Here is one of my favorite lighting fixtures from Las Vegas Market.  This photo does not do it justice, it’s stunning in person and a great combination of vintage, with all of its steel, and just the right big of glam with it’s stunning crystals.  There is nothing mass produce about this fixture, each one is handmade.

What does a multi-million dollar Las Vegas home look like? While I’m here in Vegas attending several interior design trade shows I thought I would take a look at the local real estate.   I’m so NOT a gambler so this was a good distraction while others were off at the black jack tables.

This little Las Vegas ‘cottage’ is listed for $12.500.00 (gulp).  I thought I would share a a few of the shots so you could see what this type of money buys in this neon town.  I think it’s beautiful and I think the designer did a great job.

Can you imagine sitting out on this patio on a warm summer night?  That hammock is calling my name.

Multi-Million Dollar Las Vegas Home Review I love what they’ve done with the outdoor lighting.  It’s so important to include this element when doing your landscaping, it really helps extend the feeling of more space inside of your home, although this little “cottage” isn’t lacking on space.

Yes please!  This is a great closet design.  Did you see that natural light at the far end . . . fantastic!

Then there are those hanging steel beams.  I’ve never seen this done in a closed ceiling treatment.  I like it.

What caught my eye here, the creatively designed bar stools.  See the cut out on the back and corner of each chair.  I think we’ll try that this year.

Fresh flowers AND fresh fruit, a must for every home.

Take a look at that beautiful bar!  That is a stunning piece of nature making up that counter top.

Now onto finding some new treasures for me clients. Stay tuned for pictures of the new treasures I find at Market.  We’ll also be posting pictures of those items that are always ‘little out there’, but always fun to share.

Rustic Mirror Wood

The Rustic Industrial trend is hear to stay, thanks in part to the very fun and creative Chip and Joanna of HGTV’s popular show, Fixer Upper.  Channeling an industrial past, the furniture and decor features worn woods, rough surfaces and natural elements mixed with metal.  Imagine metal poles for bookshelves, coffee tables made from old pieces of barn wood wood, and large metal wheels on pieces of furniture.

We’ve just received new salvaged wood options that we now using to frame in existing mirrors that have been previously glued to the wall (see example pictures below).   This is an extremely affordable updating option instead of ripping a mirror off of the wall which requires dry wall patching, new paint and then an entirely new mirror.
