Crown Princess Spa

Although I was thankful for the The Crown Princess Spa, it was lacking in some critical areas.

Whenever I travel, to relax I will normally book spa services.  Some people gamble, I do the spa.  I figure it’s a better return on my money. 🙂

The Spa Aboard the Crown Princess

I booked my services weeks before leaving on our cruise and was happy I did as they were turning people away when I checked in at the front desk, which is shown above.

On various days the services I had were a facial, a hot stone massage and together with my husband we had a couples ‘type’ of massage.  The running joke between my husband and I was, what day did I NOT have a spa service.  The professionals who performed these services were all outstanding and I would not hesitate to use them again.

The Crown Princess Spa

The above picture is from the Princess web site because I thought I might be a little (okay major) creepy if I brought my camera into this area.

This area (above) was a big disappointment.  The furniture shown in these pictures is the same that was used on our ship, and there were rips, sags, and the cushions were simply in need of a major makeover.

Then there is the HUGE lack of privacy.  Let me see if I can explain this correctly, see that area behind where the couple are sitting, it’s like a small walkway?  On our ship where you see the white paneled walls there were actually doors into treatment rooms with doors that opened out into the that walkway.  I happened to be having my massage in one of those rooms.  When the professional giving the service came back into the room, you better hope you are safely tucked away, because if not the waiting room was right there.  Made me feel very uncomfortable.

Crown Princess Spa Pool

Here is the Crown Princess Spa pool which was very nice and only available to adults.  On this trip, it was to chilly for the pool but we did enjoy some time in the pool spa.

Above the pool, towards the back of this photo is the ‘Sanctuary’.  I had read about this and was looking forward to enjoying some quiet time in this area.  I had read it books up quickly so I made that on of my first stops.  I’m sure the Princess crew member had a good laugh when I showed up as the place was completely empty.  It’s open to the elements so it was very frosty.  If I were going on a summer weather cruise this would be a favorite place to hide away for some R&R.

Design Notes – Please don’t mix faux wood blinds right next to old school blinds (see above photo).  The spa was on the left hand side of the photo where metal mini blinds were hung, and then you walk right into the gym were the wood blinds were hung.

Design Notes – Maybe the installation of something more than the type of white board you could buy at a local office supply would be a good addition.   Maybe it’s planned for the new ships.

Overall, I give the indoor spa facilities a “C”, the facial and massage services a “B” and the couples spa body treatment  a “D” (long story involved in that one).

I did hear great comments about the exercise classes that were offered.  If you are wanting to work off all of those extra cruise calories you may want to give those classes a try.
