This past week as I walked around all of the Las Vegas trade shows it quickly became apparent that the industrial vintage lightbulbs trend was not going away any time soon.
There were the vintage Edison Lightbulbs every where, but what I started to notice in showroom after showroom was the heat these fixtures were emitting, along with the very yellowed tone of light. The heat producing element would not be a favorite feature for me, and I wondered it there was a choice in this bulb design for color choices. My research turned up some good news!
Are vintage lighbulbs dimmable and available in LED format?
To eliminate nearly all of the heat producing elements of lightbulbs I knew that these vintage lightbulbs would have to be available in a LED format, but were they available in that format. Good news, they are! To make things easier for you, here are a slew of options which LED bulbs work best with dimmers. Bad news, in the past LED bulbs have not always been dimmable.
When ever speaking with new clients, I always recommend that nearly every lighting fixture be dimmable. Now in some cases, the switch must be replaced. Other times, you’ll pay a little more for a compatible LED. The great news, you can now get the vintage lightbulbs in a LED option, which is dimmable and does not emit much heat.
When shopping for Vintage Lightbulbs (LED), it helps to know what kind of dimming switch you have, but if you don’t know (or would rather not go through the trouble), simply search for LED bulbs compatible with standard incandescent dimmers.
Here is one of my favorite lighting fixtures from Las Vegas Market. This photo does not do it justice, it’s stunning in person and a great combination of vintage, with all of its steel, and just the right big of glam with it’s stunning crystals. There is nothing mass produce about this fixture, each one is handmade.
