Updated Master Bedroom

Just a few short months ago, as many of you know, I was in a wheel chair after a “graceful” fall while in the Colorado snow.  The three months of healing left me bored silly so my husband would humor me with frequent trips to craft and DIY locations.  During one of those outings Maryann, my soon to be new client, overheard my husband and I having a good laugh while trying to get into my company vehicle.   Maryann got a kick out of us, jotted down the phone number on my vehicle and called us a couple months later.  You just never know where you’ll meet your next client.

After our initial consultation, Maryann, and her husband Craig, brought me on board to do an update on their master bedroom, sitting room and family room.  I’ve truly been blessed by getting to know this family and look forward to having them in our lives for years to come.

Let me share with you a few of the BEFORE photos:

Now onto the fun stuff.

The dressers, headboard and foot board were items that this couple purchased when they were first married so they were staying for sentimental reasons.  Nearly everything else changed.

It’s hard not to have a “favorite” every time I’m asked to re-design a room.  In this room it’s most definitely the lighting fixtures.  The chandelier and sconces are just stunning and give this special couple that feeling of a spa.

We changed the entire color scheme of this getaway and removed anything that was blue and went with a tone-on-tone look.

The wall behind the king sized bed became a feature wall and we hung a beautiful glittery wallpaper.   It’s truly hard to appreciate how beautiful this paper is in this photo.

The bedside lamps were also changed and brought in more in scale with the bed.  It’s important to remember that you bedside lighting should be above your shoulder when sitting in bed.  This will help when reading in bed and not make the light look like it belongs in a child’s room.

Maryann decided to change out all of the bedding and I just love having the many layers when designing a bed, this one was no exception and felt appropriate in this design.

A closer look at the new bedding, it’s truly stunning.  That detail on the duvet cover has a metallic silver and gold thread running through the design.  All of the bedding had a silky feel and looks and feels like high hotel luxury.

AFTER - New Sconces and Mirror

AFTER – New Sconces and Mirror

Not a great photo but it gives you a side glance at the sconces that were installed above the dresser along with a new round mirror.  All of the lighting fixtures that were installed by an electrician were put on dimmers and separate lines, in my opinion a must.

We have one more task for this bedroom and it’s to install antiqued mirror on top of the low dresser and nightstands.  This is going to update that furniture and reflect the light and blinge of the new fixtures.  I can’t wait!

Tomorrow I’ll do a feature on the sitting room that adjoins this bedroom.

Thank you again to Maryann and Craig who invited me into their beautiful home.
