Our Remodel – Before & After

I’ve been promising for awhile to share a few pictures of our remodel so I thought today was better than never.  As you all know, the room decorating doesn’t ever seem to be done, but this area now feels completed . . . until I think of another new idea :).

For those of you who have not followed me on Facebook and/or this BLOG.  My husband and I moved into our small cozy “new” home back in May of 2014, eight months ago.  We bought the worst house on the block, and possibly the entire neighborhood.  After looking at many homes that were for sale, we both realized there was so much we would change about just about every home we looked at, we thought let’s just take on a MAJOR remodel.  We ended up living in a hotel for three months during this process, which  was two hours away from our new home. We did this because of my husbands work.   That was hard, but on the other hand also good because we could only check in on weekends.

Well lets start on this mini peek into what we’ve been up to.  I think we should start with a glimpse of the after shot first.

Sink Valance - AFTER 2

Above is the sink area of the kitchen after our remodel.  You will notice in the next couple of pictures that everything about this area is new.  The only thing that did not change was the area where the sink window is located, that remained the same.  What do you think?

Now for the before.  This is what we actually saw when we walked through the house the first time.

Sink Area - Before

Do we need to do CPR now?  Both my husband and I love a challenge, but I thought our Realtor, Wendy thought we were nuts!  This house had been on the market for months, and in and out of escrow various times.  I guess it was just waiting for us.

When you look at this before picture, make sure to take a look at that wall to the right of the sink.  We had that wall, and many others removed.

Kitchen Remodel - During

(Above) – Nothing like walking into a house that you just purchased, and have a large mortgage on, to see nothing but this . . . huge gulp the first time we stopped by for a construction inspection.

Remember that wall to the right of the sink in the previous picture,  just look to the right of the window and you will see the beams of what was once a wall.

Take notice of the blue painters tape on the wall.  That is now a window which you will see in the following pictures.  Outside of this window is a stunning view so we just had to make this addition.

Kitchen Remodel - During 2

(Above) In this photo the walls are now nearly finished and the flooring is just about ready to be laid.  The new window is now in and now let’s beautiful light into an area that will become my reading area.

Straight Cornice Box

(Above) Here is that sitting area window with it’s new window treatment, a straight cornice box.  In the next month we will have a new chair, area rug and lamp delivered  to complete this vignette.  As soon as I have a chance to accessorize my new little piece of heaven, I’ll post some shots.

Flat Roman Shad with Valance

(Above) Here is a close up of the new window treatment above our kitchen sink, it’s called a Flat Roman Shade with a Valance.  I really loved how this fabric  compliments all of the other textiles we have in the room.  Our entire home is done in shades of blue and bronze.

Canisters

Some fun canisters that just make me happy when I look at them.

You will also notice that the granite has a very subtle pattern.  It works so well with the cabinetry, flooring and back splash.

I’m hoping to post some more pictures of our “new” home soon, so keep checking back.
