Front Door – Before/After Sort Of . . .

Well . . . this week I’m in town all week for our National Decorating Den Franchise Owner Conference.  Lucky me that it’s in my own city this year as it travels all over the country, although I’m presently living an hour and a half away in a hotel because of our remodel.

The good news is that I get to check on the remodel on a daily basis while in town.  We are now at the critical point when we are past all of the building requirements and all of the pretty things are happening!!!  Can you see my smile from there?!?!

Thought you might get a kick out of seeing the transformation our front door is making.  We have decided to go with a single door, instead of a double, and it will be flanked by two side lights (see photo below).  The new one will be installed just the week before we move in to avoid scratching.  It will be stained black on the exterior and be the trim color on the interior.  By the way, you will probably gather that I’m not a fan of screens on the front door.  I figure if we need some air, there are many other doors to open.

Now don’t forget . . . we bought the worst house on the block, maybe the entire neighborhood!  We knew that we were going to use it as our laboratory . . . and as you can see, we are doing just that.  Don’t you just love that green AstroTurf?  It was everything I could not to rip it out when I was touring the house the first time.  Those “lovely” screen doors, GONE!

Well at least it looks a little cleaner.  That “beautiful” metal railing, to the right of the door, will soon be replaced with a wood pillar, which will be down lit and will hold our floating house numbers.   Our future plans include a small front porch to the right of the front door.  It’s just the perfect house for sitting outside and greeting our neighbors as they take their evening walks in our beautiful San Diego weather.

This is what our front door should look like when we are done.  I guess we will have to wait and see what the final one looks like, I’m sure it will be great!  I’m looking forward to seeing how the frosted glass works as we are leaning towards a more transitional look on the exterior but with still honoring the 1964 build year.

For my local clients I do want to remind you that I will be in our conference the remainder of this week and unable to return calls and emails right away.  I’m so looking forward to seeing my design buddies and fellow franchise owners.  There is nothing like being in a room with hundreds of creative people.  Let the fun begin!
